Dragons Blank Loons, End Great Lakes 2026 Season

DAYTON, Ohio. – The Great Lakes Loons (75-54) (1-2) were unable to score a run against the Dayton Dragons (67-63) (2-1). The Dragons won 5-0 in the decisive game three in Midwest League East Division Championship Series. Tonight’s game was on a 81-degree partly cloudy Friday night at Day Air Ballpark.
- Dayton scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Cam Leiter tossed three scoreless, permitting only two baserunners. In the fourth, Ryan McCrystal and Johnny Ascanio hit back-to-back singles. Great Lakes inserted Matt Lanzendorfer but he walked Tyson Lewis on six pitches. Damain Ruiz next-up lined a 108 mph double up the left field line, to plate three runs.
- Later in the fourth inning, Ruiz tried to steal home. Lanzendorfer fired towards the plate. Catcher Victor Rodrigues received the ball in front of home plate a catcher’s interference. Loons’ manager Jair Fernandez did not agree with the call and was ejected by home plate umpire Natanel Rodriguez.
- Great Lakes on offense went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left 11 on base. In the fifth inning, Chuck Davalan walked and Eduardo Quintero was hit by a pitch. Emil Morales grounded into a 5-4-3 double play induced by reliever Jimmy Romano. Nico Perez struck out to end the threat. Moales had two of five Loons hits, a single with no runners in the first and eighth inning.
- Dayton pitching earned nine strikeouts, Mason Morris earned six of them. Dragons pitchers Victor Diaz and Trent Hodgdon pitched on no days of rest. Diaz stranded two on in the eighth. Hodgdon needed just 10 pitches to close it out.

The Loons played their tenth game three in their playoff history. They have won five.
