Kim's Debut Spoiled in Loss to Shorebirds

Hickory, NC- The Delmarva Shorebirds got a four-run ninth inning to support Jake Dykhoff en route to a 9-5 win over the Hickory Crawdads on Wednesday night at LP Frans Stadium.

Seong-Jun Kim, the Korean two-way performer signed by the Rangers a year ago, made his debut for Hickory and made a very good first impression on the fans. The youngster finished his first outing tossing two scoreless innings, punching out four Shorebirds hitters while allowing just one hit.

The Crawdads would get on the board early as Jay McQueen singled and scored on a Yolfran Castillo fielder's choice for a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

In the second, Curley Martha singled home Marco Argudin to up the 'Dads lead to 2-0.

The opening salvo would not last not sustain the Crawdads, however, as Delmarva scored the next four runs of the contest to take a 4-2 lead.

Stiven Martinez led a three-run charge in the fourth for the Shorebirds, launching his eleventh homer of the year.

In the seventh inning with Hickory trailing 5-4, Yolfran Castillo collected his second RBI of the game with a single through the right side of the infield, scoring McQueen once more to knot the game at 5-5.

In the ninth, Delmarva rallied for four runs off Hickory reliever JD McReynolds to claim their largest lead of the night.

Jaiden Lo Re hit a bases-clearing double to give the Shorebirds an 8-5 advantage.

Jimmy Anderson plated Lo Re later in the frame to close out the scoring, as Delmarva looked to close out the night with the 9-5 win.

Jake Dykhoff (2-1), who came in relief of Delmarva (42-74, 19-31) starter Holden deJong, tossed 4.2 innings to claim his second win of the year.

McReynolds (6-3) suffered the loss for Hickory (67-46, 33-16), as Delmarva evens the series at a game apiece.

Game three of the series is set for 7pm tomorrow at LP Frans Stadium.
