Iowa Takes Game One Over Buffalo

BUFFALO, NY – The Iowa Cubs (14-8) opened their six-game road series against the Buffalo Bisons (12-9) with a 8-2 victory on Wednesday evening from Sahlen Field.

Iowa was first to strike in the contest with one run off Buffalo starter Alek Manoah, who is on Major League Rehab assignment, in the top of the second inning. David Peralta started off the frame with a base hit and eventually came around to score on a single by Jake Slaughter.

In the third, Iowa padded its lead with a couple of long balls. Brennen Davis, making his Triple-A debut this season, launched the first home run of the inning for a three-run shot. A couple batters later, Slaughter followed with a two-run homer to make it 6-0.

The scoring continued in the fourth for Iowa with two more runs crossing the plate. Owen Caissie added another RBI to his season total with a single back into center field, which scored Miles Mastrobuoni, and Luis Vazquezcontinued his productive start to the season driving in a run on a groundout.

The final two runs of the game came from Buffalo in the fourth off a two-run homer by Will Robertson. The two ballclubs then went scoreless for the fifth through the ninth innings.

POSTGAME NOTES:
Chris Clarke was the starting pitcher for Iowa and finished with a final line of 4.0 innings, six hits, two runs, two walks, seven strikeouts, and one home run allowed. His seven strikeouts tied the most thrown by an I-Cub pitcher this season.
• Davis’ home run was his first of the 2024 season after playing eight games with South Bend. It was his first home run with Iowa since September 3, 2023.
• Slaughter finished the night going 4-for-5 with three RBI and was a triple shy of the cycle. His four hits are the most by an I-Cub in a single game this season.
