Following Moises Ballesteros’ impressive stint in the Arizona Fall League, a couple other players from the Iowa Cubs 2024 roster have been making some noise this winter.
Also announced this offseason, former Cub and Iowa Cub Quintin Berry will join the Chicago Cubs to be their new third-base coach. Berry played in five games with the I-Cubs and eight with Chicago in 2015.
Outfielder Alexander Canario is batting .304 (24-for-79) with four home runs and 16 RBI across 29 games with Aguilas in the Dominican Winter League. Canario played in 64 games with Iowa in 2024 and hit 18 home runs and drove in 47 runs.
Right-handed pitcher Daniel Palencia has posted a 6.00 ERA (8 ER in 12.0 IP) in 12 appearances with Magallanes in the Venezuelan Winter League following 33 games with Iowa in 2024 in which he recorded 68 strikeouts in 39.0 innings.
Cubs No. 1 prospect Matt Shaw showed why he is one of the best prospects in all of baseball during the Premier12. He batted .412 and ranked among tournament leaders in RBI (1st, 14), total bases (1st, 24) hits (3rd, 14) and runs scored (T-5th, 7).
