PAPILLION, NE – The Iowa Cubs (41-50) flipped the script on the Omaha Storm Chasers (46-45) on Saturday night at Werner Park, taking home a 10-0 shutout victory.

The game started as a pitchers’ duel, with both sides limiting their opponents to one hit through the first four innings. Omaha used three pitchers to get through the first four frames, and the group allowed just one hit, one walk, one hit batter and a runner on an error. Two of those runners were thrown out on the bases and the other two were stranded, leaving the I-Cubs scoreless through four.

On the other side, Iowa starter Caleb Kilian was even more dominant. He walked the leadoff man in the first and allowed a double in the second, but otherwise had the Storm Chasers’ number. He lasted five innings and allowed just two baserunners, finishing his outing by retiring the last ten batters he faced in order.

Iowa finally got the scoring started in the fifth inning, and they made it count. They led off the frame with a walk before collecting five straight singles to put themselves up, 4-0. The Storm Chasers got two outs before Narciso Crook added some insurance with a three-run home run, increasing the I-Cubs’ lead to 7-0.

They didn’t stop there, however, adding on two more runs in the sixth inning on a solo home run from Levi Jordan and three more singles. Crook then launched his second home run of the night in the seventh inning to give Iowa a 10-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Omaha continued to come up empty. After Kilian departed in the fifth, Sean Newcomb spun four more scoreless innings to secure the shutout for Iowa.

POSTGAME NOTES:

Caleb Kilian tied his season high with eight strikeouts and earned his third win of the season for Iowa. It was his first victory since May 19.
Jackson Frazier extended his hitting streak to a season-high 11 games, which is one game shy of his career high and three games shy of the I-Cubs’ season high.
Narciso Crook is the fifth I-Cub to notch a two-home run game this season. He now has 13 this year and trails team leader, Jared Young, by one.
Sean Newcomb earned his first save of the year with his four scoreless innings.
