PAPILLION, NE – The Iowa Cubs (50-68) secured the series victory in a 12 inning, 6-5 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers (64-54), Friday at Werner Park.

Omaha took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single from Cam Gallagher in the first inning. They followed that with solo home runs from Nick Pratto in the third and Ryan McBroom in the sixth.

Joe Biagini allowed just those three runs through his six innings, giving up six hits while striking out seven. Unfortunately for Iowa, Brandon Barker was even better, earning his own quality start.

Barker spun six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out five, leaving the game in line for the win, up 3-0. Collin Snider relieved Barker, and Iowa’s offense instantly jumped on the new pitcher.

RBI singles from Abiatal Avelino and Andrew Romine brought the I-Cubs within one until the eighth, when Avelino drove in the game tying run with a sacrifice fly. Blake Whitney, Jason Adam and Ethan Roberts combined to throw three scoreless frames, sending the game into extras tied 3-3.

Iowa loaded the bases in the top of the tenth with nobody out, but Dylan Coleman got a strikeout and double play to end the inning without allowing a run. Roberts worked out of his own bases loaded jam, sending the game to the 11th inning, where neither team scored.

In the 12th inning, Iowa took their first lead of the game on a bases-loaded, bases clearing double from Taylor Gushue to take a 6-3 lead. Omaha scored two in the bottom of the inning to make it 6-5, but Juan Gamez stopped the madness there, getting the third and final out to give the I-Cubs their fourth straight victory, tying a season long.

POSTGAME NOTES:

• In his first action since being released on May 26 after a significant leg injury, Jason Adam threw a scoreless eighth inning tonight for Iowa. Adam threw a perfect frame, striking out two along the way.
