PEARL, Miss. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (1-1, 29-41) defeated the Mississippi Braves (1-1, 30-42) by a 10-3 score in the second game of the five-game series at Trustmark Park on Friday night.

Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Max Duval (2-6) earned his first victory since April, working five innings where he allowed three runs on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Mississippi right-handed starting pitcher Bryse Wilson (1-5) took the loss, allowing five runs (one earned) on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
The Jumbo Shrimp started the scoring with a five-run top of the second inning. Brian Schales plated the first run with his fielder's choice scoring John Norwood from third base, as he beat a throw at home from the Braves shortstop. Duval then laid down a sacrifice bunt and a throwing error by the pitcher Wilson scored Joe Dunand to put the lead at 2-0. A throwing error by Braves third baseman Luis Valenzuela on a ball hit by Monte Harrison plated two more runs to put the lead at 4-0. Jacksonville's final run in the rally came courtesy of an RBI double by Isan Díaz to grow the lead to 5-0.
The Braves climbed back in the game with solo home runs. Connor Lien first homered for Mississippi in the bottom of the second, then in the bottom of the third solo home runs by Alay Lago and Tyler Marlette cut Jacksonville's lead to 5-3.
Facing M-Braves right-handed relief pitcher Kelvin Vasquez, the Jumbo Shrimp had another big inning in the fifth, scoring four runs. First Schales delivered a two-run single to put the lead at 7-3, then Sharif Othman and Brian Miller followed with RBI singles to grow the lead to 9-3. Peter O'Brien grew the lead in the next inning with a towering home run to center field to put the advantage at 10-3, which would be the final score.
The game also saw Jacksonville relief pitchers Dylan Lee and Lukas Schiraldi both work two scoreless innings in their Double-A debuts. Marlins No. 16 prospect shortstop Joe Dunand was 1-for-5 with a double in his Double-A debut.
The game was delayed by an hour and five minutes at the beginning of the contest due to rain.
