JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Corey Bird launched a grand slam and tallied a career-high five RBIs and Daniel Castano fired 6.2 strong innings on Monday as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp eased to an 8-2 win over the Mississippi Braves from the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Martín Prado was hit by a pitch from Mississippi (42-52, 9-16) starter Jaseel De La Cruz (2-5) to start a scoreless fourth inning. Prado moved to second on a wild pitch and scored two batters later on Stone Garrett's RBI single. After a fly out, Lazaro Alonso drew a walk before Bird singled in Garrett to give Jacksonville (43-51, 14-10) a 2-0 lead.

Castano started the fifth inning with a base hit. After a pair of free passes, Castano scored on a double play. Garrett then cashed in Brian Miller to extend the lead to 4-0. An error and another walk loaded the bases for Bird, who pummeled a grand slam to put the Jumbo Shrimp ahead 8-0.
Ray-Patrick Didder and Alejandro Salazar notched back-to-back RBI doubles in the seventh, but that was the extent of the damage against Castano (2-1). The left-hander yielded two runs on four hits in 6.2 innings, striking out seven without walking a batter. McKenzie Mills tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief and Chad Smith hurled a shutout ninth to seal the victory.

Monday's winning raffle number of 1232244031 won a prize of $50.
