JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Fans will get a special treat immediately following Tuesday's 7:05 series opener against the Birmingham Barons with a professional daredevil juggling act by former Miami Marlin and current Suns second baseman Derek Dietrich.
Dietrich, who learned the skill when he was 8-years-old, will juggle balls, bowling pins, knives and flaming torches all at home plate on Bragan Field.
After learning the skill as a child in Cleveland, Dietrich joined a local circus company in high school and performed at children's hospitals, nursing homes and elementary schools. He also had an impromptu performance while playing at the 2011 Midwest League All-Star game.
On the field, Dietrich has eight doubles, seven home runs and 20 RBI in 47 games for the Suns. He also had a walk-off homerun for the Suns on April 26 which later earned him a promotion to the Miami Marlins.
Tuesday's contest is also the final Fifty-Cent Family Feast night in 2013. Fans can enjoy $.50 hot dogs, peanuts and ice cream treats, sponsored by Oscar Mayer, Hampton Farms, Blue Bell Ice Cream, Folio Weekly and 99.9 Gator Country. Fans may also present a receipt from any local GATE Convenience Store at the Suns Box Office for Buy One-Get-One Tickets.
