Jacksonville's season ends with 2-1 loss

Diaz homers in defeat at Jackson; Hurricane Dorian wipes away final two games of campaign
August 31, 2019

JACKSON, Tenn. - Lewin Diaz homered on Saturday, but the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp fell 2-1 to the Jackson Generals at the Ballpark at Jackson.

The score was tied at one when Daulton Varsho singled off Jumbo Shrimp (66-71, 37-30) reliever Daniel Castano (7-2). After a walk, Seth Beer singled home Varsho to make it 2-1 in favor of Jackson (78-57, 39-26).

After Diaz went yard in the top of the first, Varsho tied the game with a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning.

Generals reliever Jayson McKinley (3-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. West Tunnell picked up his sixth save of the campaign with a scoreless ninth.

Castano ceded just one run on four hits in 5.1 frames, fanning five against three walks.

Because of impending Hurricane Dorian, The Southern League made the decision Saturday to cancel Jacksonville's final two games of the season. Thus, the club completed the 2019 campaign with a 66-71 record.
