Shortly after Jaguars linebacker Myles Jack threw the ceremonial first pitch to Jumbo Shrimp pitcher Max Duval, Jacksonville (3-4) took a lead in the bottom of the first inning. Designated hitter John Norwood hit a two-out infield single against BayBears right-hander Luis Pena (0-1), Jagielo homered to right field to make it 2-0.

Mobile (3-4) answered in the top of the second inning against Neidert (1-0). Left fielder Zach Gibbons hit a two-out single, stole second base and scored on right fielder Brendon Sanger's RBI single. In the bottom of the inning, the Jumbo Shrimp got the run back. Center fielder Monte Harrison walked, stole second and third bases, and scored on right fielder Kyle Barrett's RBI single to right field, extending a 3-1 lead.

The teams traded lone runs in the fourth inning. BayBears shortstop Hutton Moyer singled, stole second base, advanced on catcher Michael Barash's groundout and scored on Gibbons' RBI single. Jumbo Shrimp catcher Rodrigo Vigil walked, went to third base on shortstop Chris Diaz's single, and scored on Barrett's groundout for a 4-2 Jumbo Shrimp edge.

Neidert went five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and no walks with four strikeouts. Right-hander Jorgan Cavanerio worked around a double and walk in the sixth inning and lasted 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Left-hander José Quijada pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings. After four walks, two wild pitches, a hit and an error led to three eighth-inning runs off BayBears left-hander Jonah Wesely, Jacksonville right-hander Marcus Crescentini pitched a perfect ninth inning.
UP NEXT: The Jumbo Shrimp continue their home-opening series with Mobile at 7:05 p.m. Friday, when Jacksonville right-hander Jeff Brigham (1-0) is scheduled to face BayBears right-hander Ivan Pineyro (0-0).
