Jacksonville, Fla. - Despite multi-hit games by Jake Mangum, Jordan Groshans and Jerar Encarnacion, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp fell short to the Norfolk Tides 3-1 Thursday night at 121 Financial Ballpark in front of 5,890 fans. Jacksonville, Fla. - Despite multi-hit games by Jake Mangum, Jordan Groshans and Jerar Encarnacion, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp fell short to the Norfolk Tides 3-1 Thursday night at 121 Financial Ballpark in front of 5,890 fans.

Colton Cowser (6) sent the first pitch of the game from Jumbo Shrimp (18-16) starter Devin Smeltzer (0-1) over the right-field wall to give the Tides (26-3) an early 1-0 advantage.

The Jumbo Shrimp scratched across the tying run against Tides starter Cole Irvin (4-1) in the second inning. Encarnacion walked and Jordan Groshans singled to put two on for Austin Allen, who flew out to center, allowing Encarnacion to advance to third. Two batters later, Mangum hit an infield single to plate Encarnacion and level the game at one.

Cowser (7) smashed his second home run in as many at bats in the third inning to quickly put Norfolk back on top, 2-1.

A Joey Ortiz (3) solo home run gave the Tides an insurance run in the eighth inning to extend their lead, 3-1.

Jacksonville and Norfolk continue their series Friday at 7:05 p.m.The Jumbo Shrimp will start RHP Ronald Bolaños (1-2, 3.71) and the Tides will counter with RHP Chris Vallimont (1-0, 2.66). Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on Bally Live, MiLB.tv., ESPN 690, and espn690.com.
