Taylor, Driscoll go deep as Shrimp roll to 8-1 win

NORFOLK, Va. – Brayden Taylor and Logan Driscoll each drilled home runs on Sunday as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp rolled to an 8-1 win over the Norfolk Tides at Harbor Park.
The game was scoreless through the first four innings before Jacksonville (69-67, 27-35) broke through in the fifth. Johnny Olmstead singled with one out before advancing to third on a two-base pickoff error. Juan Matheus walked before Cam Cannarella lashed an RBI single for the game’s first run. After a ground out put both runners in scoring position, Matthew Etzel smacked a two-run single off Norfolk (52-83, 25-36) starter Trey Gibson (3-6) to make it 3-0.
Kemp Alderman led off the sixth before Taylor blasted a two-run shot to widen the gap to 5-0.
The lone Tides run came in the bottom of the sixth. José Barrero earned a leadoff walk. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and stole third before scoring on a Payton Eeles RBI ground out.
The Jumbo Shrimp had another answer in the seventh. Jonathon Long and Etzel earned one-out walks before advancing on a wild pitch. After a line out to left, Alderman’s two-run single broke things open at 7-1.
Driscoll’s leadoff homer in the eighth capped the scoring at 8-1, helping Jacksonville earn a series split.
After Monday’s off day, the Jumbo Shrimp return to VyStar Ballpark for Tuesday’s 5:05 p.m. doubleheader against the Gwinnett Stripers to kickoff the final homestand of the season. Coverage begins at 4:50 p.m. on MLB.tv, Bally Live, ESPN 690AM and www.ESPN690.com.
