Earlier Wednesday, due to the uncertainty of Hurricane Irma, the Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announced that the 2017 BC® Powder Southern League Championship Series had been canceled. Each of the winners of the best-of-five North and South Division Series will be declared Co-Champions for the 2017 Southern League season.

Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Chris Mazza and Blue Wahoos right-hander Deck McGuire dueled in a scoreless game until the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Blue Wahoos second baseman singled to right field and went to second base on center fielder Gabriel Guerrero's groundout. Left fielder Josh VanMeter then singled into left field, scoring Long.
Mazza lasted seven innings, allowing one earned run on six hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Left-hander Daniel Schlereth got the first two outs of the eighth inning before walking Guerrero. A balk by Schlereth moved Guerrero to second base, and VanMeter singled into center field, scoring Guerrero to make it 2-0.
After eight scoreless innings with four hits, no walks and a career-high 13 strikeouts, McGuire gave way to right-hander Tanner Rainey for the ninth inning. Rainey walked left fielder Austin Dean and Miami Marlins rehabbing first baseman Justin Bour. Right fielder John Norwood singled to left field to load the bases and chase Rainey. Right-hander Zack Weiss entered, striking out catcher Cam Maron and third baseman David Vidal. He got shortstop KC Serna to ground into a fielder's choice for the final out, earning a save for Weiss and a win for McGuire.
