Best-of-five Southern League South Division Championship Series will decide a Southern League Co-Champion

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pensacola Blue Wahoos hit three home runs, and right-hander José López allowed one run in eight innings for a 6-3 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in Game Two of the best-of-five Southern League South Division Championship Series at Blue Wahoos Stadium Thursday night.


PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pensacola Blue Wahoos hit three home runs, and right-hander José López allowed one run in eight innings for a 6-3 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in Game Two of the best-of-five Southern League South Division Championship Series at Blue Wahoos Stadium Thursday night.

The Blue Wahoos took the lead in the bottom of the second inning against Jacksonville left-hander Matt Tomshaw. Left fielder Josh VanMeter doubled down the first-base line off the glove of Miami Marlins rehabbing first baseman Justin Bour. First baseman Gavin LaValley then hit a two-run home run to berm in right-center field. Right fielder Aristides Aquino walked and scored after consecutive singles by catcher Joe Hudson and shortstop Blake Trahan, making it 3-0.
The Jumbo Shrimp answered with a third-inning run against Pensacola right-hander José López. Center fielder Braxton Lee hit a two-out double down the left-field line and scored on left fielder Austin Dean's RBI single to left field.

Tomshaw completed five innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and three walks with six strikeouts. Right-hander Ben Meyer followed with his first Southern League appearance. Blue Wahoos third baseman Arismendy Alcantara hit a two-out solo home run to right field to make it 4-1. In the seventh inning, left fielder Gabriel Guerrero walked, and VanMeter homered to right field to extend the edge to 6-1. Left-hander Miguel Del Pozo pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
After Lopez retired the last 12 batters he faced, Blue Wahoos right-hander Robert Stock allowed a ninth-inning, two-out walk to Bour, who was 0-for-2 with two walks and is 4-for-14 with a home run in five games with Jacksonville. Third baseman David Vidal hit a two-run home run to left field to make it 6-3. Stock fanned catcher Cam Maron for the final out.
On Wednesday, due to the uncertainty of Hurricane Irma, the Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announced that the 2017 BC® Powder Southern League Championship Series had been canceled. Each of the winners of the best-of-five North and South Division Series will be declared Co-Champions for the 2017 Southern League season.
