MOBILE, Ala. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (15-25) fell to the Mobile BayBears (17-23) by a 9-1 score in the fifth and final game of the five-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The BayBears won the final two games of the series to clinch a series win, and the Jumbo Shrimp have not won a road series so far in 2017.

BayBears starting pitcher Jake Jewell (2-2, 4.32 ERA) earned the victory, going five scoreless innings where he allowed three hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Jacksonville starter Omar Bencomo (4-2) took the loss, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

The BayBears started the scoring with a three-run bottom of the second. An error by Jacksonville third baseman Brian Anderson brought in the first two runs on a ground ball hit by Jose Briceno to give the BayBears a 2-0 edge. Mobile then scored Briceno on an RBI double by Andrew Daniel to put the lead at 3-0. The BayBears added a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI triple for Zach Houchins to lead 4-0, then made it 5-0 when Luis Tejada led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run.

Houchins continued his strong performance at the plate with a three-run homer off Bencomo in the fifth to put the lead at 8-0, and that was the last batter Bencomo faced. Houchins finished his day 3-for-4, a single shy of the cycle.

Hunter Adkins took over for Bencomo out of the bullpen and worked three perfect innings of relief with four strikeouts. The Jumbo Shrimp scored their lone run in the top of the seventh with an RBI single from Cam Maron, who scored John Norwood who had tripled earlier in the inning. Mobile added the game's last run in the bottom of the eighth on a Zach Welz RBI double that put the lead at 9-1, which would be the final.

The Jumbo Shrimp will bus home to Jacksonville today, and then tomorrow night start a five-game series with the Mississippi Braves as the start of a 10-game homestand at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville at 7:05 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Joe Gunkel (0-1, 4.00 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against Mississippi right-hander Mike Soroka (3-3, 2.84 ERA).
