Jacksonville ends six-game losing streak

MOBILE, Ala. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (14-23) defeated the Mobile BayBears (15-22) by a 3-1 score in the second game of the five-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium on Sunday afternoon. 

MOBILE, Ala. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (14-23) defeated the Mobile BayBears (15-22) by a 3-1 score in the second game of the five-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium on Sunday afternoon. 

Left-handed Jumbo Shrimp starting pitcher Matt Tomshaw (4-1) earned the win, as he worked six and two-third innings only allowing a run on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts as he lowered his ERA to 2.14. Mobile starter Alex Blackford (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Ryan Beckman worked a perfect ninth to earn his team-high third save of the season.
Jacksonville shortstop Alex Yarbrough gave the Jumbo Shrimp the lead in the third inning with a towering two-run homer to right field to put the score at 2-0. Jacksonville added to the lead an inning later with Cam Maron hitting an RBI single to put the lead at 3-0. Mobile got its lone run in the bottom of the sixth with Wade Wass hitting a solo homer off Tomshaw to put the score at 3-1, which would be the final.
Before Beckman earned the save in the ninth, Esmerling De La Rosa got the final out of the seventh inning and worked a scoreless eighth out of the Jumbo Shrimp bullpen. The victory ends a six-game losing streak for Jacksonville.
The Jumbo Shrimp and BayBears will continue their series with the third game of the five-game set on Monday at Hank Aaron Stadium at 7:35 p.m. ET. Left-handed pitcher Mike Kickham (0-3, 3.97 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against Mobile right-hander Grayson Long (1-2, 3.00 ERA).
