Suns OF Will Lead Off, Play Center Field For South Division
July 9, 2013

The Southern League announced Tuesday that Jacksonville Suns outfielder Jake Marisnick was named a starter for the 2013 Southern League All-Star Game, which the Suns will host at Bragan Field on July 17. Marisnick will lead off the South Division squad's batting order and play center field.

Despite missing the first month of Southern League action due to injury, the 22-year-old ranks tied for second in the league in slugging percentage (.498), in addition to sixth in batting average (.295). Overall in 57 games for Jacksonville this year, Marisnick owns a .295 average (67-227), adding ten home runs and 41 RBI.

After being selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the third round of the 2009 draft, the California native was acquired by the Marlins organization via trade on November 19, 2012. Since joining the Suns on May 1, Marisnick ranks second in the Southern League in RBI (41) and total bases (113), third in hits (67) and homers (ten) and tied for fifth in extra-base hits (23), in addition to top ten ranks in batting average, runs scored (35), on-base percentage (.362) and slugging percentage (.498).

Marisnick will be joined by six other Jacksonville Suns on the South Division squad, including starting pitchers Adam Conley, Sam Dyson and Jay Jackson, as well as relief pitchers Michael Brady, Arquimedes Caminero and Collin Cargil. Suns skipper Andy Barkett will also manage the South Division squad, while pitching coach John Duffy, hitting coach Kevin Randel, third base coach Rich Arena and athletic trainer Masa Fujimoto will also be on the team's coaching staff.

The Suns will host the 2013 Southern League All-Star Game at Bragan Field on July 17 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at JaxSuns.com, or at the box office at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
