JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Biloxi Shuckers second baseman Javier Betancourt homered and had three hits to lead his team to a 5-3 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in front of 4,642 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville Thursday night.

Jacksonville right-hander Chris Mazza (0-2) kept Biloxi (18-16) scoreless until the fifth inning, when Betancourt hit a two-out solo home run to left field. Mazza finished five innings, allowing an earned run on three hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Biloxi added a sixth-inning run against left-hander Kyle Lobstein, as shortstop Mauricio Dubón singled, went to second base on a groundout, stole third base and scored on catcher Austin Nola's passed ball.
Trailing 2-0 against Biloxi right-hander Luis Ortiz (2-3), Jacksonville (13-21) had a sixth-inning leadoff double by third baseman Brian Anderson. He advanced to third base on a flyout and scored on second baseman David Vidal's sacrifice fly.
The 2-1 lead was preserved for 1 1/3 innings by left-hander Nick Ramirez, who was aided by catcher Jacob Nottingham throwing out center fielder Yefri Pérez at second base to end the seventh inning. In the eighth inning, Nottingham began a double play when Anderson popped up a sacrifice bunt attempt in front of home plate against right-hander Bubba Derby.

 In the ninth inning against Jacksonville right-hander Tyler Higgins, Shuckers right fielder Clint Coulter homered to left field, pinch hitter Art Charles doubled, and Dubon and third baseman Angel Ortega each hit RBI singles for a 5-1 lead.
Jacksonville scored ninth-inning runs on Vidal's RBI double and Perez's RBI groundout before right-hander Matt Ramsey got the final two outs with the tying runs on base for his third save of the series against his former club and 10th this season.
UP NEXT: The Jumbo Shrimp conclude their series with Biloxi at 7:05 p.m. Friday, when Jacksonville right-hander Omar Bencomo (4-1) is scheduled to face Shuckers right-hander Aaron Wilkerson (2-2). Fans may visit any participating NAPA AutoCare Center to get a FREE general admission ticket for the game, which will be followed by NAPA AutoCare Family Fireworks. The Jumbo Shrimp will wear red "Bold City" jerseys on Red Shirt Friday, and fans who wear red can save $1 per ticket at the box office, or donate the $1 to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Gates open at 6 p.m. for Miller Lite Happy Hour, presented in part by Wild Wing Café, with Miller Lite beer specials in the new Craft Cave inside the third-base gate until 7:30 p.m. The Wheelhouse Chef's Table will include a buffet in the suite-level lounge open to all fans for $15 per plate. The game is also presented by WEJZ Lite 96.1.
