11 Hits Not Enough as Intimidators Drop Game 1 in Hagerstown

HAGERSTOWN, MD - Despite 11 hits on the night, Kannapolis drops the first game of the four-game series to the Hagerstown Suns 12-5 Tuesday night at Municapal Stadium.
In the first, Kannapolis' Davis Martin (L, 3-4) allowed a Glibert Lara single after getting the first two batters to ground out, as Jacob Rhinesmith followed the single with a solo homer (1) to right-center, giving Hagerstown an early 2-0 lead.
After three strikeouts for the Intimidators in the top of the second, the Suns scored their third run of the ball game with a double, single, double steal and error from catcher Michael Hickman all with no outs. With a runner at third, Martin struck out Tyler Cropley and Jose Sanchez for the innings' first outs, as Justin Connell then walked on four pitches.
With runners at first and third, Martin allowed back-to-back singles to Kyle Marinconz and Gilbert Lara to help extend Hagerstown's lead to five, 5-0.
After a mound visit and a single, Israel Pineda walked after a six-pitch at-bat with bases loaded, bringing in the sixth run for the Suns.
Next up, Omar Meregildo struck out on four pitches, but a ball in the dirt and fielding error from Hickman allowed a run to score and the inning to continue for the Suns. Up 7-0, back-to-back singles increased the lead to 10 for Hagerstown, capping off an eight-run inning.
In the top of the third, Gunnar Troutwine reached third after reaching on a walk earlier in the inning, as Ian Dawkins doubled (15) in Troutwine for the Intimidators' first run. After Dawkins' double, Lenyn Sosa doubled (14) to score Dawkins and Romy Gonzalez singled on a line drive to center to score Sosa, cutting the Kannapolis deficit to seven, 10-3.
In the top of the fourth, Hickman redeemed himself at the plate with a solo shot (2) to right field off Jake Irvin (W, 3-3), putting up Kannapolis' fourth run.
Up by six runs, Ricardo Mendez help the Suns pick up their 11th and 12th runs of the ball game with a double (1) to center field in the sixth, ending the scoring for the Suns on the night.
One inning later, back-to-back doubles from Alex Destino and Amado Nunez helped Kannapolis plate their fifth run, putting an end to all scoring on the night.
After Tuesday night's loss, Kannapolis (19-25) will send Johan Dominguez (0-2, 2.81 ERA) to the mound Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. against Hagerstown's Francys Peguero (2-2, 2.30 ERA).
