Late Offense Pushes Kannapolis Over RidgeYaks in 6-2 Win Friday

Ballers Capitalize on Late Chances to Even Series at Two Games Each

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers scored five runs combined in their seventh and eighth innings to win, 6-2, over the Salem RidgeYaks in front of a passionate Faith Night crowd Friday night at Atrium Health Ballpark. With the win, Kannapolis is back at .500 with a 50-50 record

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers scored five runs combined in their seventh and eighth innings to win, 6-2, over the Salem RidgeYaks in front of a passionate Faith Night crowd Friday night at Atrium Health Ballpark.

With the win, Kannapolis is back at .500 with a 50-50 record on the year, dropping Salem to 43-56 on the year with their second win of the season.

RHP Fabian Ysalla turned in what many would say is his best outing of the season, allowing just one run on three hits with one walk and one strikeout. Out of the bullpen, RHP Marco Barrios kept Salem quiet in 1.2 innings, with RHP Carlton Perkins (W, 3-0) winning his third game of the season despite an unearned run in his 1.1 frames. RHP Daniel Wright nailed down the win in the ninth, allowing two hits but struck out one and drew a double play to end the game.

Salem opened the scoring in the top of the fifth inning, going in front, 1-0, on a solo home run by Adonys Guzman.

Kannapolis answered quickly, knotting the game at, 1-1, with a Jaden Fauske RBI double in his return to the lineup. Fauske’s line drive down the right field line scored Steven Lancia to even the score.

Guzman’s night of success continued in the top of the seventh, singling to score Andrews Opata and put the RidgeYaks back out in front, 2-1.

The Ballers broke through against the Salem bullpen in the bottom of the seventh, capping a string of offense with a two-RBI double by Matthew Boughton. Fauske and Christian Gonzalez crossed the plate, pushing the Ballers into the lead, 3-2, after seven. Kannapolis added another three runs in the bottom of the eighth, taking a, 6-2, lead on a wild pitch that scored Stiven Flores, a bases-loaded walk of Gonzalez and a Fauske RBI groundout.

Kannapolis looks to clinch a series split at minimum in their fifth game of the week at home against the Salem RidgeYaks on Saturday night. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m., with LHP Nick Pinto tabbed as the starter. The first 1,000 kids receive a youth jersey presented by Atrium Health.
