KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (April 9, 2017) - The Intimidators allowed single runs in seven different innings on Sunday in a 7-1 loss to Lakewood at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Kannapolis (0-4) suffered a series sweep to open the season for the first time since 2010.

Ismael Cabrera (1-0) earned the win for Lakewood (4-0) with 3.0 scoreless innings in which he faced one batter over the minimum, retiring nine of the 10 Intimidators that faced him. He fanned three and walked none over three hitless frames. Intimidators starter Bernardo Flores (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits over 4.0 innings, striking out six and walking one in his Class A debut.

The BlueClaws took an early 3-0 lead with lone tallies in each of the first three innings. Brett Barbier doubled in a run in both the first and third inning to bolster the Lakewood advantage. Barbier finished the night 3-for-5 with three doubles and two RBI.

Kannapolis got on the board in the fourth inning when Seby Zavala led off the frame with a walk and later scored on an Antonio Rodriguez ground ball to cut the BlueClaws lead to 3-1. Lakewood's Arquimedes Gambo blasted his first home run (1) of the season, a 382-foot shot over the right-field wall, for a 4-1 lead with one out in the top of the fifth inning. The BlueClaws added runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth to pull away.

BlueClaws starter Adonis Medina held the Intimidators to one run over the game's first four innings, limiting Kannapolis to three hits and four walks while striking out two in a no decision.
