In Focus: Daniel Webb

Daniel Webb joined Erik Johnson, Marcus Semien, and Miguel Gonzalez as the last four prospects to have their names called by the Chicago White Sox.
 
Webb began his year with the High-A Winston-Salem Dash, but quickly bullied his way to Birmingham. The flamethrower would allow just two unearned runs over eight April games for the Dash, while recording one win and two saves (1-0, 0.00). Webb pitched at least two innings and recorded one strikeout in seven of his eight appearances (15.0 IP/19 K). Opposing batter managed just 10 hits in 55 at-bats (.182), and just two went for extra-bases (both doubles).
 
The Paducah, Kentucky native landed in Double-A Birmingham to begin May continued his hot play.
 
Webb finally allowed his first earned run in his 10th game of the season, but replied with eight consecutive scoreless outings. He would give up just four runs in 20.1 innings for a 1.77 ERA in 13 appearances with the Barons.
 
The strikeouts would continue to roll in as well for Webb, who recorded at least one strikeout in 11 of 13 games, including six with multiple K's. He allowed just 11 hits and five walks, which added up to an impressive 0.79 WHIP.
 
Southern League hitters who managed a hit against off Webb were lucky, as he held opponents to a .155 average, left-handers hitting just .100 (3-for-30).
 
As a result, he earned a promotion to Charlotte on June 21st and made his Triple-A debut the same night. Unlike his previous two stops, Webb struggled a bit to begin his Knights' career, allowing runs in four of his first six appearances. He would also give up his first and only home run of the year on July 9th versus Durham. Doing the math, Webb did not allow a long ball over his first 40.0 innings pitched. Including his 8.2 innings worked in the Majors so far, he has gone completed 71.1 innings conceding just one home run.
 
He would find his groove though, allowing just six unearned runs over his final 15 appearances with Charlotte. His run would include eight consecutive outings from 7/14-8/10 with multiple strikeouts.
 
Webb would end his year in Charlotte after posting a 1-1 record with a 2.96 ERA and four saves. Combined with his previous numbers in Winston-Salem and Birmingham, he was 2-1 with a 1.87 ERA in 42 appearances and 10 saves in 2013.
 
Webb made his Major League debut in the same game as teammate Erik Johnson, September 4th at Yankee Stadium. Overall in nine games with the White Sox, Webb posted a 0-0 record with a 3.18 ERA. 
 
Webb was originally a 12th round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2008, however, he chose to attend Northwest Florida State College. He was then selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 18th round the next year.
 
In the Blue Jays organization, Webb began his professional career as a starter before transitioning to a relief role. He made 27 starts before he finished his Jays' career with seven relief appearances in 2011.
 
It was his last season because that winter Toronto traded Webb and Myles Jaye to the Chicago White Sox for Jason Frasor, who actually was traded to the White Sox six months earlier with Zach Stewart for Edwin Jackson and Mark Teahen.
