Moosic, Pennsylvania (April 18, 2024) – A late push in the seventh inning came up a little short for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (7-8) as they fell back below .500 with an 8-4 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes Barre RailRiders (12-5) on Thursday night at Coca-Cola Park.

After a scoreless first two innings, the RailRiders broke the ice in the third inning. With two aboard after two walks and one out, Caleb Durbin doubled into the leftfield corner to drive in a run. Everson Pereira then blasted a three-run homer, to make it 4-0 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The game stayed 4-0 until the sixth. With two on and two out, Josh VanMeter doubled to right-centerfield, driving in both runners, and pushing the RailRiders lead to 6-0.

The IronPigs made things interesting in the seventh. Jordan Luplow started the frame with a single and Weston Wilson walked with one out. David Dahl sliced a single to left to drive in Luplow to get the IronPigs on the board. Scott Kingery then stepped up and blasted a three-run homer to left, his fifth of the year, to cut the deficit to 6-4.

That was as close as the ‘Pigs got though. Periera hit a solo homer, his second of the night and sixth of the season, in the seventh, and Luis Gonzalez drew a bases loaded walk in the eighth to bring the final score to 8-4.

Will Warren (2-0) pitched six shutout innings for the RailRiders to earn the win. He allowed just two hits and a walk, striking out seven.

Mick Abel (1-1) took the loss for the IronPigs, allowing four runs in five innings on four hits and three walks, striking out seven.

The IronPigs and RailRiders continue their series on Friday, April 19 with first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m. Tyler Phillips (1-1, 3.78) goes for Lehigh Valley while Scranton/Wilkes-Barre counters with Clayton Beeter (0-0, 0.00).
