Moosic, Pennsylvania (Tuesday, April 16) – The combined effort of Taijuan Walker, Michael Mercado, and David Buchanan stymied the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (10-5) offense, as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (7-6) rolled in the series opener 7-1 on Tuesday night at PNC Field.

Matt Kroon singled to open the game and then went first-to-third on a Kody Clemens one-out single. Clemens then stole second and with two outs, Aramis Garcia drove in Kroon with a single. The next batter, Darick Hall, drove in both Clemens and Garcia with a ball off the wall in rightfield, but was thrown out trying for second.

Walker allowed a run in the bottom of the first as one out walk came around to score following an error.

The ‘Pigs rolled the rest of the way, adding a run in the sixth when Esteban Quiroz walked in the bases loaded and then another in the seventh on a Weston Wilson sacrifice fly. Kody Clemens put the game to bed in the ninth with a two-run homer, his third of the year.

David Buchanan (2-1) allowed just one hit in relief, striking out four over four scoreless innings to earn the win for the IronPigs.

Tanner Tully (0-2) suffered the loss for the RailRiders, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out one in 2.2 innings.

In his first rehab start with Lehigh Valley, Walker worked 4.2 innings allowing just one run on three hits and three walks, striking out one, He threw 78 pitches, 48 strikes.

The IronPigs and RailRiders continue their series on Wednesday April 17 with first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m. Max Castillo (0-0, 4.82) goes for Lehigh Valley while Scranton/Wilkes-Barre counters with Yoendrys Gomez (0-0, 3.00).
