Allentown, Pennsylvania (June 4, 2023) – Jake Cave made a mad dash from third base to score the winning run in the ninth inning on a Darick Hall single and subsequent throwing error as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (29-27) plated three runs in the ninth to walk-off the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (27-30) by a final of 8-7 on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park.

The RailRiders exploded for five-runs in the first. Andres Chaparro roped an RBI single before Franchy Cordero brought in two with a triple and then scored on a Rodolfo Duran single. Duran scored later in the inning, advancing from third on a caught stealing at second base.

The IronPigs answered with four in the second as Cave roped an RBI double and Dustin Peterson mashed his first of two homers on the day, a three-run shot.

Solo homers in the fourth and sixth from Jesus Basitidas and Jamie Westbrook, respectively, for the RailRiders extended their lead to 7-4.

Peterson ripped his second homer of the day and seventh of the season in the eighth, a solo shot, to trim the deficit to 7-5.

In the ninth, Vimael Machin blooped a single to start the inning and then was pinch-run for by Jordan Qsar. Scott Kingery doubled off the wall in right to score Qsar and make it 7-6. Weston Wilson then sacrificed Kingery to third before Cave walked. Peterson tied the game with a sacrifice fly before Hall’s single which prompted a throwing error allowing Cave to score to win the game.

Luis Ortiz (1-0) fired a scoreless ninth to earn the win for the IronPigs. He allowed one hit and struck out two.

Deivy Garcia (1-1) suffered the loss for the RailRiders, allowing four runs (three earned) in 1.2 innings on five hits and a walk, striking out one.

Following an off-day on Monday, the IronPigs begin a six game series on Tuesday, June 6 against the Syracuse Mets at NBT Bank stadium. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m.
