IronPigs “Walk” it off in the 10th

IronPigs win their fifth straight game to stay in 1st place

(Allentown, PA) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (57-45) rallied in the bottom of the 10th inning on Thursday evening to defeat the Syracuse Mets (45-57) 7-6. Phillip Diehl (2-2) issued a walk with the bases loaded walk to Will Toffey as the Johan Camargo scored to give the ‘Pigs the win.

The IronPigs took a 3-0 lead against Nate Fisher in the bottom of the first inning. Rafael Marchan hit a two-run single that scored Nick Maton and Dalton Guthrie. Jorge Bonifacio hit a sacrifice fly that would score Justin Williams for the third run of the inning.

The Mets scored a run against Cristopher Sanchez in the top of the fourth inning as Gosuke Katoh hit an RBI single that scored Nick Plummer. Syracuse proceeded to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning with two outs. Deven Merrero scored with the bases loaded on an RBI walk by Travis Blankenhorn. Nick Plummer hit a two-run single that scored Francisco Alvarez and Dominic Smith.

Sam Coonrod and Jakob Hernandez each pitched scoreless innings of relief. Nick Duron (4-4) entered the game in the top of the ninth inning. Michael Perez hit a solo home run with one out to give the Mets a 5-3 lead.

Lehigh Valley was able to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning against Bryce Montes de Oca. Josh Ockimey hit a pinch-run double that scored pinch-runner Chris Sharpe. Toffey then scored on a force out by Guthrie.

The IronPigs and Mets continue their series on Friday evening at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
