IronPigs have now clubbed multiple homers in three straight games

Allentown, Pennsylvania (May 12, 2023) – Despite the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (18-18) continuing their power surge with two more homers, the Memphis Redbirds (23-14) rallied late to steal a 7-4 win on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park.

Dustin Peterson started the scoring as he led off the second with a homer, his third of the season, giving the IronPigs a 1-0 lead.

Memphis took the lead in the top of the fifth. Luken Baker roped an RBI single before a wild pitch pushed Taylor Motter across the plate to give Memphis a 2-1 lead.

The IronPigs answered right back in the bottom of the fifth. Scott Kingery tied the game immediately with a solo shot to begin the inning, his fourth of the season. Jordan Qsar was then hit by a pitch and Jhailyn Ortiz followed with a single. A fielder’s choice resulted in a throwing error allowing Qsar to score and give the IronPigs a 3-2 lead. Aramis Garcia capped the inning with an RBI double to make it 4-2.

Three walks and a wild pitch procured a run for Memphis in the sixth before Baker tied the game with a solo homer leading off the seventh. Irving Lopez put Memphis back in front with an RBI double later in the inning.

Baker went yard again leading off the ninth, his 14th of the year, and Lopez roped another RBI double in the ninth to provide Memphis with some cushion.

Matthew Liberatore (4-1) collects the win for Memphis. He worked seven innings, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk, striking out five.

Hans Crouse (1-3) suffers the loss for the IronPigs after he allowed two runs on four hits, striking out three in two innings.

Guilermo Zuniga (S, 4) earned the save for Memphis, stranding the bases loaded in the ninth after two walks and a hit batter, striking out two in a scoreless frame.

The IronPigs and Redbirds meet again on Saturday, May 13 at 6:35 p.m. for game five of their series.
