Losing streak, no more against Rochester

Ockimey and Marchan hit back-to-back home runs (Rochester, NY) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (73-66) snapped their four-game losing streak against the Rochester Red Wings (63-77) on Saturday night as they won 4-3. In addition, the IronPigs won their first game against Rochester for the first time since July 10.

(Rochester, NY) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (73-66) snapped their four-game losing streak against the Rochester Red Wings (63-77) on Saturday night as they won 4-3. In addition, the IronPigs won their first game against Rochester for the first time since July 10.

The Red Wings took a 1-0 lead against Cristopher Sanchez in the bottom of the first inning. Lucius Fox scored on an RBI groundout by John Nogowski. The IronPigs tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning against Logan Verrett. Ali Castillo scored on a bases-loaded walk by Dustin Peterson.

Nogowski hit a two-run double against Sanchez in the bottom of the third inning to extend Rochester’s lead to 3-1. Sanchez left the game after four innings pitched. He allowed three runs (two earned) off three hits and one walk with a season-high seven strikeouts.

Verrett allowed just one run over seven innings for Rochester. Luis Avilan entered the game to pitch in relief in the top of the eighth inning. Josh Ockimey tied the game at 3-3 with a game-tying two-run home run – his eighth of the season. Avilan is removed from the game for Juan Minaya (1-6). Rafael Marchan homers off Minaya in the following at-bat to give Lehigh Valley a 4-3 lead.

Jonathan Hennigan (5-3) earned the win for Lehigh Valley as he pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. He gave up one hit and struck out two batters. Nick Duron earned his sixth save of the season by pitching a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning. He also struck out two batters, while issuing just one walk.

The IronPigs and Red Wings wrap up their season series on Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
