Pigs and WooSox split DH

C.J. Chatham homers twice, WooSox rally in Game 2 (Worcester, MA) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (50-61) and Worcester Red Sox (63-49) split their doubleheader on Saturday. The IronPigs won game one by a score of 8-6 while the WooSox won game two by a score of 5-4. Game 1

C.J. Chatham homers twice, WooSox rally in Game 2

(Worcester, MA) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (50-61) and Worcester Red Sox (63-49) split their doubleheader on Saturday. The IronPigs won game one by a score of 8-6 while the WooSox won game two by a score of 5-4.

Game 1

The Pigs wasted no time getting after Worcester starting pitcher Kyle Hart (6-8) as they scored three runs against him in the top of the first inning. C.J. Chatham hit an RBI single that was followed by a two-run single by Darick Hall. Lehigh Valley scored three more runs against Hart in the top of the third inning to take a 6-0 lead. Chatham hit a two-run home run, his second home run of the season and T.J. Rivera hit a sacrifice fly that scored Jorge Bonifacio.

Franchy Cordero homered against Jack Perkins in the bottom of the third inning to cut Lehigh Valley’s lead to 6-1. It was the lone run allowed by Perkins in the four innings he pitched. Chatham homered for the second time in the game in the top of the fifth inning – a solo home run against Colten Brewer that gave Lehigh Valley a 7-1 lead. Bonifacio would score on a wild pitch by Brewer to give Lehigh Valley an 8-1 lead in the inning.

Worcester would trim Lehigh Valley’s lead to 8-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning against Taylor Guerrieri. Joey Meneses hit his fourth home run of the season that was followed by a two-run home run from Josh Ockimey. Meneses struck again in the bottom of the sixth inning against Mike Adams as he hit a two-run double to cut the Pigs’ lead to 8-6.

Jeff Singer (2-1) earned the win for Lehigh Valley as he pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief.

Game 2

Hans Crouse made his AAA debut and was greeted with a run by the WooSox in the bottom of the first inning as Josh Ockimey hit an RBI single that scored Taylor Motter. The Pigs would tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the second inning when T.J. Rivera hit a game-tying home run against Matthew Kent.

Darick Hall would give Lehigh Valley a 2-1 lead against Kent in the top of the fourth inning when he hit an RBI single to score Adam Haseley. Jeremy Rivera tied the game at 2-2 against Crouse in the bottom of the fifth inning when he hit his first home run of the season. Cordero followed with an RBI single that scored Chad De La Guerra that gave Worcester a 3-2 lead.

Crouse left the game at 4 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs off five hits and three walks with six strikeouts recorded. Tate Matheny hit an RBI double that extend Worcester’s lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Arquimedes Gamboa hit a game-tying two-run home run against Austin Brice (3-0) in the top of the seventh inning. It was his second of the season. Jeremy Rivera would win the game for the WooSox in the bottom of the seventh inning as he hit an RBI single to score Franchy Cordero. Damon Jones (1-3) took the loss for Lehigh Valley.

The Pigs and WooSox wrap up their series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is at 1:05 p.m.
