Lone run for Lehigh Valley was on a wild pitch
(Worcester, MA) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (50-62) saw Daniel Gossett and the Worcester Red Sox (64-49) hold them just to three hits in a 3-1 loss on Sunday afternoon. The Pigs scored their lone run of the game in the top of the fifth inning on a wild pitch.
IronPigs starting pitcher David Paulino made his first start since being ejected from the August 29 game against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Paulino allowed just one run over five innings - a home run by Jeremy Rivera in the bottom of the third inning. Braeden Ogle pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief followed by Brady Lail – who pitched 2/3 of an inning without allowing a run.
Tate Matheny hit a two-run home run against Jakob Hernandez (2-2) in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 3-1 lead. The home run was Matheny’s fifth of the season.
Martin Perez (1-0) earned the win for Worcester by pitching a scoreless eighth inning where as former IronPigs pitcher Yacksel Rios earned his third save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The Pigs return to action on Tuesday at Coca-Cola Park against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
