MIDLAND, Mich. - When a franchise wins its first championship, there's a story to be told. If you didn't follow the Great Lakes Loons story this past year, or if you did and want to relive it, you're in luck.
The Loons in-house production team has spent the last 12 weeks creating "The Journey to a Championship," a documentary that tells not only the story of how the team came to Midland, Michigan, but the historic 2016 season that culminated in the Loons winning their Midwest League Championship.
"This project was something we had discussed internally in the weeks following the playoffs," Loons Assistant General Manager of Marketing & Communications Matt DeVries said. "Trent Elliott did an incredible job putting together this entire thing together and we're excited Loons fans and baseball fans, in general, will get the chance to see it."
Interviews for the documentary we're conducted with President Paul Barbeau, Senior Vice President & General Manager Scott Litle and Vice President of Corporate Partnerships Chris Mundhenk, all of whom have been with the Loons since their inaugural season. Radio broadcasters Chris Vosters and Brad Tunney provided in-depth analysis and commentary about the team's highs and lows throughout the 2016 season.
The documentary will be released in segments on the team's Facebook page, Twitter account and YouTube channel on Tuesday each week throughout January and February. Plans for a full DVD release are still being finalized.
The 2016 Midwest League Champions and hosts of the 2017 MWL All-Star Game presented by GoGreat.com have been a Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007. For tickets and more information about the Great Lakes Loons, call 989-837-BALL or visit Loons.com.
