Louisville Bats outfielder Aristides Aquino has been named the 2019 International League Rookie of the Year. In 78 apps with Louisville in his debut Triple-A season, he batted .299 (88-for-294) with 13 doubles, 28 home runs, 53 RBI and a .992 OPS.

The 25-year-old is the first Louisville player to win the IL Rookie of the Year since Joey Votto in 2007, the only 2 to win the award since the franchise has been affiliated with the Cincinnati Reds in 2000.

Aquino's 28 home runs for the Bats this season were the most in a season for Louisville in Reds affiliation history, with Brian O'Grady (27 HR) also passing the previous season-high of 25 home runs. While with Louisville, Aquino homered in 4 straight games from July 25-28, and recorded 3 multi-homer games, all in the month of June.

Aquino was also named as an outfielder on the 2019 IL Postseason All-Star team, the first Louisville outfielder to receive those honors since Billy Hamilton in 2013.

The Dominican Republic native had his contract selected by the Reds on August 1, appearing in 24 games this season with Cincinnati (.321/.387/.786 with 12 HR, 26 RBI) as of August 27. He hit 10 home runs in his first 16 career games with the Reds, setting an MLB record.
