LOWELL, MA - The second game of a make-shift double-header saw similar results to the first game of the evening.
It was a pitcher's duel throughout the evening and starting pitcher Chris Machamer turned in one of the best starts of his young professional career. The 16th-round pick out of Kentucky went five innings with no runs allowed on only four hits. It was the longest outing of the season to date as well as the first in which he did not surrender an earned run.
The Lake Monsters got to the Spinners bullpen in the top of the seventh as they cracked open a 0-0 game with a four-run inning to take the lead.
The offense failed to get on the board and mustered only three hits on the evening.
With the loss, the Spinners welcome Vermont back to LeLacheur Park for the second game of the series on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
