The Lynchburg Hillcats secured the split of the series with the Delmarva Shorebirds after a 4-3 victory on Sunday afternoon.

It was the fourth straight game in the series that ended by a 4-3 score, with each team winning twice. Zane Morehouse also picked up his first professional save after coming in for the ninth inning.

Similar to last night, each team scored in the first inning. Delmarva plated two on an Anderson De Los Santos double to center field to take the early lead.

Lynchburg would have to work a bit harder for their runs, as three walks, a balk, and a wild pitch would allow the Hillcats to get on the board. Both Guy Lipscomb and Jaison Chourio would score in the inning.

The Hillcats would strike again in the fourth inning as Luis Durango would pick up his first double of the season to bring Juan Benjamin home. The next batter, Lipscomb, would pick up his third triple of the week to drive Durango home.

In the sixth, Delmarva would creep closer on a De Los Santos fly ball to center field to bring home Matthew Etzel. They would threaten in each of the final few innings but could not crack the scoreboard again. In the ninth, a double play to right field with a runner in scoring position would end the game and down the Shorebirds.

With the win, Lynchburg moves back to two games out of first place in the Carolina League North Division after the Carolina Mudcats 9-0 loss earlier in the afternoon.

Lynchburg will travel up to Fredericksburg this coming week to take on the Nationals with playoff implications on the line. The Hillcats will return home for the final time this season for a series with the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers on September 5-10 at Bank of the James Stadium.
