Marauders and Miracle Split at McKechnie

August 29, 2013

Bradenton, Fla. - The Marauders (30-33) split a doubleheader with the Fort Myers Miracle (32-33) on Thursday night at McKechnie Field. Bradenton won the resumed game from August 18 by a 5-2 score, but fell 2-1 in the seven inning contest that followed.

Adrian Sampson (W, 5-8) pitched a complete game, the Marauders first of the season, holding Fort Myers to a pair of runs while striking out three. Sampson pitched three innings on Sunday, August 18 before the game was suspended. When play resumed on Thursday, Fort Myers trimmed Bradenton's 2-0 lead to a single run on Byron Buxton's RBI hit in the fifth. Sampson did not allow another run until the ninth, when Bradenton's lead was 5-1. Mike Kvasnicka hit a solo homer for Fort Myers' other run.

Willy Garcia helped Bradenton extend their lead to 4-1, punching a two RBI single into left field against Steven Gruver in the fifth. Dan Gamache added an RBI double later in the game. Starter David Hurlbut (L, 0-1), who did not appear in the resumed portion of the game, took the loss.

Emmanuel De Leon made a spot start in game two, surrendering a run in the first on a D.J. Hicks sacrifice fly. De Leon was nearly untouchable after that, striking out five through five innings.

Bradenton got De Leon off the hook in the bottom of the fourth. With Stetson Allie on first after a walk by Jason Wheeler (W, 9-4), Gamache hit a soft liner to short. Allie broke on contact, but A.J. Petterson was ruled to intentionally drop the ball at short trying to start a ground ball double play. Allie was awarded his safe return to first base. Jose Osuna punished the Miracle for the mistake, tripling off the wall in left centerfield to tie the score 1-1.

Orlando Castro (L, 2-3) pitched a scoreless sixth inning and returned for the seventh. With Kvasnicka at first and two outs, Castro picked off the runner, but Osuna's relay to second was late. J.D. Williams singled to right to drive in the deciding run.

Adrian Salcedo pitched the bottom of the seventh, stranding two Marauders for his second save of the season.

The Marauders travel to Fort Myers on Friday. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Pat Ludwig will pitch for Bradenton, while Taylor Rogers draws the start for Fort Myers. The game will be broadcast online at www.BradentonMarauders.com.
