Minor League Free Agent Signings Update

The following players have been signed to 2015 minor league contracts or acquired via trade or waivers by the St. Louis Cardinals and could be members of the Redbirds roster this season:

INF - Dean Anna - Anna was signed as a free agent by the Cardinals and added to the club's 40-man roster in November. The 27-year-old made his Major League debut with New York (A) in 2014, batting .136(3-for-3) with one home run and three RBIs. Anna also split the majority of last season between Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Indianapolis of the International League, hitting a combined .207 (41-for-198) with two home runs and 21 RBIs in 65 games. He was recognized as a 2013 Pacific Coast League Post-Season All-Star with Triple-A Tucson in 2013, where he batted a league-leading .331 while hitting 38 doubles. The Harvey, Illinois native was originally selected by the Padres in the 26th round of the June, 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of Ball State University.


RHP - Marcus Hatley - Hatley (pronounced hat-lee) signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals in November and received an invite to Major League spring training in 2015. The right-handed pitcher spent his first seven season in Chicago's (N) organization after being drafted by the Cubs in the 39th round of the June, 2006 First-Year Player Draft. Last season, Hatley was 2-6 with a 4.60 ERA (24er/47.0ip) and 58 strikeouts in 45 relief outings for Triple-A Iowa. The 26-year-old was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and attended Palomar Community College in San Marcos, California.


RHP - Miguel Socolovich - Socolovich (pronounced so-co-LOW-vitch) signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals in November and received an invite to Major League spring training in 2015. The 28-year-old right-hander pitched the entire season with Triple-A Las Vegas, going 2-2 with a 3.64 ERA (24er/59.1ip) and 68 strikeouts in 51 relief outings. The 6-1, 195-pound native of Caracas, Venezuela has appeared in a combined 12 games at the Major League level for Baltimore and Chicago (N) in 2012. Socolovich was originally signed at the age of 16 by Boston out of Benito Juarez Middle School in Venezuela.


INF/OF - Ty Kelly - Kelly was acquired by the Cardinals from the Mariners in exchange for minor league pitcher Sam Gaviglio, and added St. Louis' 40-man roster in late November. The switch-hitting utility man spent the 2014 campaign with Triple-A Tacoma, batting .263 (120-for-480) with 15 home runs and a team-high 80 RBIs (12th in Pacific Coast League) in 134 games. The 26-year-old also drew 85 walks (2nd in PCL) and posted a .381 on-base pct. (10th in PCL). Kelly was originally selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 13th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of California-Davis.


RHP - Tyler Waldron - Waldron was claimed by St. Louis in the first round of the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 draft in December from the Pirates organization. The right-hander split an injury-shortened 2014 campaign between three levels in the Pirates chain, going a combined 3-3 with a 3.00 ERA (17er/51.0ip) and 46 strikeouts in 23 games (four starts). The 25-year-old was originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the fifth round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Oregon State University.
