MOBILE, Ala. (May 24, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, mustered just four hits and were shut out 2-0 by the Biloxi Shuckers in front of 3,095 fans Friday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Despite taking the loss, Jesus Castillo (2-5) recorded his team-high third quality start. He allowed two runs on four hits in the second inning but tossed five scoreless frames otherwise. It was Castillo's sixth straight outing surrendering two runs or fewer.
The BayBears (19-28) had two runners on base in the third and fifth but went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Trey Supak (5-2) gave up just four hits, two in the infield, over 6 2/3 innings. Marcos Diplan got the final out of the seventh, Luke Barker retired the side in order in the eighth, and Nate Griep worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth to earn his ninth save for the Shuckers (26-22).
Jhoan Urena 's league-high 20-game on-base streak was snapped with an 0-for-4 night at the plate.
The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Biloxi Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Jason Alexander (1-1, 2.78 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Drew Rasmussen (0-0, 0.90 ERA) for the Shuckers.
