A bases-loaded walk to Braxton Lee forced in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning, and the New Orleans Baby Cakes held off the Memphis Redbirds' scoring opportunity in the bottom of the 10th to nab a 2-1 victory in Thursday's series opener.
The Baby Cakes came from behind to win for the third straight game and extended their winning streak to five games to move back to the .500 mark for the first time since May 23.
Memphis got on the board first, capitalizing on a pair of fouth-inning walks by Jarlin Garcia to plate a run on a two-out single by Adolis Garcia.
The 'Cakes were shut out until the eighth, when Connor Greene issued a leadoff walk to Braxton Lee, who advanced to second on a Magneuris Sierra bunt and scampered home on a single up the middle by Austin Dean.
Greene (0-1) was still on the mound when the game moved to extra innings, and gave up a single to Cito Culver to put runners at the corners before consecutive walks to Peter Mooney and Lee brought in the go-ahead run. Edward Mujica came out of the bullpen to escape further damage with a lineout double play and a strikeout.
Jose Quijada (1-0) had runners at second and third with one out in the bottom of the 10th, but fanned Tyler O'Neill for the second out. Luke Voit then hit a sinking line drive to right field, and Lee made a sliding catch to preserve Quijada's first Triple-A victory.
Garcia turned in his first quality start by limiting the Redbirds to one run and four hits in 6 2/3 innings, and Javy Guerra struck out three in 1 1/3 hitless frames of relief.
The 'Cakes, now within 6 1/2 games of first-place Memphis, have a chance to move closer when the series continues Friday at 7:05 p.m.
