Zac Gallen allowed one run and three hits in six innings, and the New Orleans Baby Cakes used a five-run fourth inning to defeat the Oklahoma City Dodgers, 5-1 on Monday night.
Winless in nine starts since May 15, Gallen gave up a first-inning run on Kyle Farmer's two-out RBI single before retiring 11 of the next 12 batters and holding the Dodgers hitless until Alex Verdugo's leadoff single in the sixth. Gallen (5-5) walked four and struck out seven in his first start since appearing in the Triple-A All-Star Game.
The Baby Cakes broke through against Brock Stewart in the fourth by sending eight batters to the plate and capitalizing on three Dodgers errors. J.B. Shuck led off with a single and stole second base, and after a walk to Eric Campbell, a throwing error by Farmer on a force attempt allowed Shuck to trot home and tie the game.
Tomas Telis followed with a two-run triple, and came all the way around to score on an error by second baseman Jake Peter. Cristhian Adames kept the rally going with a single and a stolen base, moving to third on Farmer's second error of the inning, and Peter Mooney drove him in with a sacrifice fly.
Jose Quijada retired all six batters he faced out of the New Orleans bullpen, including three via strikeout, and Nick Wittgren worked around Farmer's leadoff single in the ninth to close out the Baby Cakes' first victory in five attempts this season at Bricktown Ballpark.
Stewart (1-2) was charged with five runs - three earned - on five hits in 6 1/3 innings and suffered the loss.
The Baby Cakes and Dodgers play a doubleheader on Tuesday starting at 4:35 p.m. Game one is the makeup of the rain out in New Orleans from July 2.
