The Omaha Storm Chasers used a 15-hit attack to upend the New Orleans Baby Cakes, 9-2 on Tuesday night.
It was the Storm Chasers' first victory over New Orleans in six attempts at Werner Park this season.
Tyler Cloyd, a University of Nebraska-Omaha graduate who resides jsut down the road from the Storm Chasers' ballpark, was hit for eight runs on 11 hits in five innings in his Baby Cakes debut. Omaha put up four runs in the second inning, and four more in the fifth to build an 8-1 advantage.
All 15 hits by the Storm Chasers were singles, including three from Cam Gallagher and two apiece from Frank Schwindel, Ryan O'Hearn and Humberto Arteaga. Each of the first seven hitters in the Omaha lineup scored at least once.
After O'Hearn scored the game's first run on a wild pitch, Logan Moon delivered a two-run single and Manny Olloque followed with an RBI single to give Omaha an early four-run cushion.
The 'Cakes got on the board in the third inning when Cristhian Adames walked, advanced to third on Austin Nola's double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Isaac Galloway.
Back-to-back RBI singles from O'Hearn and Paulo Orlando in the and an RBI single by Gallagher in the seventh extended the Omaha lead to 9-1.
Heath Fillmyer (3-3) held the Baby Cakes to one run and four hits in seven innings to earn the win.
The four-game series continues on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.
