Jacob Nottingham's single in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Nate Orf from second base to give the Colorado Springs Sky Sox a 7-6 walk-off win over the New Orleans Baby Cakes on Thursday night.
After Jonathan Rodriguez homered in the top of the ninth to draw the Baby Cakes even at 6-6, Jumbo Diaz issued a leadoff walk to Orf in the bottom half to put the winning run on base. Following a sacrifice bunt and another walk, Nottingham laced a single to right to bring in the game-winner and give Colorado Springs a sweep of their first home series of the year.
New Orleans had taken a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Peter Mooney tripled, extending his hitting streak to seven games, and scored on a grounder by Cito Culver.
The Sky Sox battled back to tie in the bottom of the inning, then scored twice in the fifth to grab the lead courtesy of a single by Tyrone Taylor.
A leadoff single by Cristhian Adames in the sixth was converted into a run on a ground out by Culver, only for the Sky Sox to stretch their advantage to 6-3 in the seventh thanks to doubles by Mauricio Dubon and Nottingham.
The 'Cakes got back within a run in the eighth as Culver drove in his third run of the night with a single, then scored on a pinch-hit triple with two outs by Isaac Galloway.
Rodriguez's second home run of the year, a solo blast with one out in the ninth, completed the comeback and dealt a blown save to Angel Ventura (1-0), who wound up with the victory.
Diaz (0-1) took the loss in relief of starter Sandy Alcantara, who was charged with four runs on four hits with five walks and four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.
The Baby Cakes continue their first road trip of the season on Friday with the opener of a four-game set in Oklahoma City. Right-hander Ben Meyer is slated to take the mound for the 7:05 p.m. start against Dodgers righty Brock Stewart.
