WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (August 14, 2022) — The Winston-Salem Dash dropped the series finale against the Bowling Green Hot Rods 4-2.

Norge Vera made his Dash debut in the series finale, and the young right-hander was very effective. Despite only working two innings, Vera didn’t allow a hit, run, or walk while striking out a pair of Hot Rod hitters.

Bowling Green starter Ben Brecht held Winston-Salem off the board through three innings, until his offense got rolling in the top of the fourth. Tyler Frank lined a triple down into the left field corner, then later Alexander Ovalles tripled as well to push Frank across. The next batter Matt Dyer grounded out, but Ovalles scampered home to put the Hot Rods up 2-0.

The Hot Rods fifth inning got underway with a strikeout, but then Gionti Turner smoked a double to get into scoring position. Johan Lopez then reached first on an E5, with Turner advancing to third base. Tyler Frank then skied a fly ball into center field, which was enough for Turner to score on the sacrifice fly.

Winston-Salem couldn’t plate a run in the sixth or seventh inning, due to strong pitching by Victor Munoz. He allowed just one hit with two strikeouts across two frames.

In the top of the eighth, Alexander Ovalles demolished his 10th home run of the season over the Foothills Flight Deck in right field, to give Bowling Green a 4-0 edge.

But in the home half, the Dash put a rally together. Alsander Womack punched a single through the left side of the infield with one out, then Bryan Ramos walked and Luis Mieses was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a meeting on the mound, Tyler Osik got hit by a pitch to push Womack across with the first run of the game for Winston-Salem. Later, Ben Norman added another run with an RBI groundout.

Unfortunately, Winston-Salem couldn’t get any more offense together as they dropped the series finale 4-2. Brecht got the win for Bowling Green, Kyle Whitten locked down the save, while Luis Moncada was the losing pitcher.
