Chiefs outlast Tides in road trip opener

The Syracuse Chiefs rallied with single runs in the ninth and tenth innings to top the Tides 9-8 Thursday night from NBT Bank Stadium. 

The Syracuse Chiefs rallied with single runs in the ninth and tenth innings to top the Tides 9-8 Thursday night from NBT Bank Stadium. 

Norfolk held an 8-7 advantage entering the ninth, but the Chiefs knotted the score off of Jhan Mariñez (0-1) to send the game in extras. After the Tides couldnt' push across a run in the top of the tenth, Adrían Sanchez singled home Rafael Bautista in the bottom half of the frame to give the Chiefs a walk-of win in the opener of the four-game series. 
DJ Stewart paced Norfolk's offense, singling four times and scoring two runs to help lead Norfolk's 13-hit attack. Austin Wynns added two hits and two runs batted in, while Luis Sardiñas contributed a two-run double. 
Norfolk set a season-high with 13 hits, but the Tides committed a season-high three errors in the setback. 
The start of the game was delayed an hour and 26 minutes due to rain 
The two clubs continue their four-game set on Friday afternoon, with first pitch set for 1:05 pm. Yefry Ramírez (0-1) is set to make the start for Norfolk in his first appearance since being optioned from Baltimore on Wednesday.
