IronPigs' outfielder Dylan Cozens has been named International League Batter of the Week, as announced by league officials today. For the week of May 8-14, Cozens batted .393 (11-for-28) with a double, four home runs, eight RBI and eight runs scored -- and led the circuit in total bases (24). The Scottsdale, Ariz., native hit a pair of walk-off home runs during the week, clubbing a game-winner in the bottom of the 11th inning in a 2-1 win over Rochester on Wednesday and another in the 12th inning in a 5-4 victory over Buffalo on Friday. Also in Friday's win, he hit a lead-off home run in the second inning and, more importantly, came through with a two-out, game-tying RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the contest into extras.
After batting just .136-4-15 (11-81, .211 OPB/.296 SLG/.507 OPS) in 23 games in the opening month of April, Cozens has hit .370-5-13 (17-46, .434 OBP/.761 SLG/1.195 OPS) in just 13 games in the month May. Before going hitless in Sunday's night cap of the doubleheader with the Buffalo Bisons, the 22-year-old had hit in eight-consecutive games which is tied for the second longest amongst IronPigs hitters. During the eight game hitting streak, Cozens hit.406-5-10 (13-32, 2B, 2 BB, 10 R).
Cozens is now tied for the League lead on the year with nine home runs and is tied for 2nd in RBI with 28.
All-time, there have been just seven other Pigs to earn this honor: Andy Tracy (3x: 6/30/08, 8/11/08, 6/22/09), Michael Taylor (8/17/09), John Mayberry (4/19/10), Jeff Larish (6/6/10),
