Lombardi Trophy Coming to Hadlock

PORTLAND, MAINE - New England Patriots cornerback and Super Bowl XLIX hero Malcolm Butler is scheduled to make an appearance at Hadlock Field on Monday, April 27th, when the Portland Sea Dogs host the Binghamton Mets at 6:00 PM. Butler's appearance at Hadlock Field is presented by Asylum Sports Bar and Grill.

Butler will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and will be available to sign free autographs on photos provided by the Sea Dogs for fans from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Butler was signed by the New England Patriots as a rookie free agent on May 19, 2014, after going undrafted out of the University of West Alabama. The 25-year old appeared in 11 regular season games for the Patriots this season and saw limited action. He became a household name at the end of Super Bowl XLIX, when he sealed the Patriots' 28-24 victory by intercepting Russell Wilson's pass intended for Ricardo Lockette at the goal line with 26 seconds left to play. It was Butler's first career NFL interception. Two plays prior to the interception, Butler had the awareness to push Jermaine Kearse out of bounds after his miraculous, bobbling catch that brought Seattle to the five-yard line. Butler ended up leading the team with a game-high three passes defensed in just 18 defensive snaps, and also posted three tackles.

The Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, have hosted many Patriots players at Hadlock Field over the past several years including Steve Grogan (2008), Rob Gronkowski (2011), Patrick Chung (2012), Rob Ninkovich (2013), and Shane Vereen (2014).
