Tides edged by Durham Saturday
The Tides left the bases loaded in the first, third and fifth innings, then left two men on base in the eighth. Norfolk brought the tying run to the plate with two out in the ninth, but Winston Abreu struck out Adam Donachie with Blake Davis on second base to wrap up the win and his 11th save of the season.
Durham has now won six straight games vs. the Tides this season, outscoring Norfolk 54-18 over that span.
Jeff Salazar once again led Norfolk's offense, as he finished 3-for-4 with a walk to up his average to .286. Salazar now has 11 multi-hit games over his last 21 contests, hitting .337 with five home runs and 10 RBI over that span.
Nolan Reimold slugged a solo homer in the contest, while Matt Angle added two hits and an RBI. Blake Davis finished 2-for-4 with two walks and has now hit safely in nine of his last ten games.
Elliot Johnson had three hits for the Bulls, while Angel Chavez singled twice and drove home two.
Mike Elkstrom (4-1) earned the win in relief, while Chris George fell to 4-4 after allowing four runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings. George walked one and struck out four.
The Tides and Bulls will play their final game of the first half of the season Sunday afternoon, with first pitch from Harbor Park scheduled for 1:15. Armando Gabino (4-0, 2.77) will take the hill for Norfolk against left-hander Carlos Hernandez (6-4, 3.96).
