Bees comeback to beat Cubs

(Burlington-IA)- The Burlington Bees put together a pair of three run innings, on Wednesday night, coming back to beat the South Bend Cubs, 6-4 at Community Field. 

Yasiel Balaguert started South Bend's offense in the top of the second inning, crushing a double to right center. After a wild pitch allowed Balaguert to move to third, Cael Brockmeyer grounded out to the left side, scoring Balaguert, putting the Cubs on top, 1-0. South Bend put the lead off man on again, this time in the top of the third inning when Jeffrey Baez walked and moved to second on a Rashad Crawford single. Charcer Burks grounded into a double play, moving Baez to third with two outs. Geyber Torres singled, scoring Baez, upping the Cubs' lead to 2-0.

Caleb Adams got the Bees going in the bottom of the fifth inning, grounding a one out double to left, his seventh of the season. After a Wade Wass walk, Ryan Seiz grounded a single to center, scoring Adams, cutting the Bees' deficit to 2-1. With two outs, Jake Yacinich dumped a single to left, scoring a pair, putting the Bees on top, 3-2.

South Bend tied it on a Yasiel Balaguert double in the top of the sixth inning and then took the lead when Rashad Crawford hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Jeffrey Baez, giving South Bend a 4-3 lead.

Michael Hermosillo drew a lead off walk to start the bottom of the eighth inning, moving to third on an Andrew Daniel single. Natanael Delgado tied the game up with a single to right, scoring Hermosillo. The next hitter, Zach Houchins, lined a single to left, scoring Daniel, giving the Bees a 5-4 lead. Wade Wass gave the Bees an insurance run with a sacrifice fly, scoring Delgado, extending the Bees' lead to 6-4.

Eduardo Paredes came on from the bullpen and worked a quick, scoreless, top of the ninth, earning his ninth save of the season in a Bees' 6-4 win over the South Bend Cubs. Jordan Piche (1-3) picked up the win for the Bees in relief while Tommy Thorpe (1-4) was charged with the loss. The Bees and the Cubs continue the series Thursday night at 6:30 as Michael Bolaski makes the start against Trevor Clifton for the South Bend Cubs.
