June 15, 2015

Indianapolis, IN --- Corey Brown tripled home the tie-breaking runs in the sixth, with Richie Shaffer unloading a tape-measure homer in the seventh as Durham defeated Indianapolis 6-3 on Monday night at Victory Field.

With the game tied 3-3 in the sixth, Brown tripled just beyond the reach of centerfielder Keon Braxton to score Allan Dykstra and Luke Maile to put Durham (39-27) ahead 5-3. In the seventh, Shaffer hit his 8th homer in 20 Triple-A games, blasting a solo shot off of the sidewalk beyond the left field grass seating to provide the Bulls a 6-3 lead.

Robert Zarate, Kyle Winkler and Preston Guilmet (S, 2) combined to blank the Indians (41-25) over the final three innings. Jim Miller (W, 3-1) worked 2 1/3 innings to earn the victory after Jordan Norberto pitched 3 2/3 innings, whiffing six in a spot start.

In the first, JP Arencibia singled home two two-out runs to give Durham a 2-0 advantage. In the second, Ryan Brett hit a sacrifice fly to score Dykstra for a 3-0 lead.

Indianapolis scored a run in the second and two in the fifth to tie the game 3-3.

The game featured three ejections by home plate umpire Ian Fazio. Fazio tossed Indians hitting coach Butch Wynegar in the third, along with catcher Tony Sanchez and manager Dean Treanor in the ninth.

The Bulls, now 4-1 on their seven-game road trip, send Everett Teaford (4-5, 6.30) on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM ET against Chris Volstad (5-2, 3.52).
