Suns Power Past Braves 7-3

Jacksonville's Black Collects Four RBI in Win, Suns Eliminate Braves from Playoff Contention

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., - The Jacksonville Suns (28-41, 57-81) powered past the Mississippi Braves (36-32, 69-67) 7-3 Sunday night from Bragan Field.

Matt Tomshaw (W, 6-10) in his start for the Suns lasted seven innings allowing two runs (all earned) on three hits while walking one and striking out eight. Stephen Janas (L, 2-8) took the loss in his start for the Braves surrendering seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits while walking one and not striking out a batter.

The scoring would begin in the top of the first when the Braves got on the board after a solo shot by Levi Hyams (HR, 3) that moved the Braves ahead 1-0.

Onto the bottom of the first a Viosergy Rosa RBI single, a Ryan Rieger run-scoring base knock, and Danny Black's two RBI double moved the Suns in front 4-1.

Moving to the last of third with a pair of runners on it was Black's two-run single that ballooned Jacksonville's scoreboard edge to 6-1. In the same frame, the Suns tacked one more courtesy of Kenny Wilson's RBI single to make the tally 7-1.

On to the fourth stanza Mississippi added a pair of runs after David Rohm's RBI double, and a wild pitch offered up by Suns bullpen arm Juancito Martinez that made it a 7-3 contest.

With the win, the Suns eliminated the Braves from playoff contention.

The Suns and Braves will square off in the regular season finale Monday afternoon from Bragan Field with a first pitch set for 1:05 p.m. ET. Suns will send out right-hander Austin Brice (6-9, 4.67 ERA) while the Braves will counter with righty Greg Ross (7-9, 3.99 ERA).
